Be Prepared Before Flying with Your ESAs 

Are you planning to spend your vacations in some other country and curious to know that if it is possible to take your esa with you? The answer is yes… but there are a few conditions as well. When I first took my great pyrenees on flight, I didn’t know all the rules so I had to face a lot of trouble. So here is a complete guide that you can follow and have a comfortable journey to your dream vacation spot.  

Documents that you require during flight

There are some specific documents that you need to have before taking your siamese cat with you. You will need to show the latest emotional support animal letter that you got from your therapist. The letter should not be older than a year. The letter must have your name, your disability and you need to have an esa with you. This letter must be printed on the letterhead of a licensed mental health therapist. Some airlines have their system of issuing an esa form to their clients that you have to fill. But it is advisable to use your letter instead of using the form.

Give notice to airlines

Every airline has their own set of rules. Some airlines allow esa on board and some do not allow. Before booking a flight, you need to give notice to an airline in which you wish to travel. Generally, airlines have different notice time period so it is better to follow 48 hours rule in case of any query. If you have an international flight, then you are advised to inform them at least 72 hours before the time of your flight.  

Arriving at the airport with your esa

Once you arrive at the airport, make sure you have your calico cat letter in hand all the time. For the sake of readiness, we suggest you keep your esa letter with your passport and boarding card so that you won’t be lost at the airport. If you have a vest for your esa pet then make sure that you put it on them. Although this is not necessary but just in case if you want to be extra careful then you can do this. As you have called the airlines and informed them about your intentions of taking your pet with you, they will take a look at your letter and then guide you both to the cabin of the plane.

Even though airlines are obliged to allow your maltipoo pet on the flight but they have full right for the denial of your flight if your pet shows any threatening behavior or danger to others. If flight staff feel that your pet behavior is disruptive, they can ask you either to leave the flight or to let your esa stowed away in the hold of the plane where all other pets are kept. In this case, you have to pay pet handling fee as well. All the airlines provide food and water to your pet. You may also bring anything that your pet requires during flight just in case if the flight does not offer any amenity to the pets. Only pack the essentials of the pet for your flight to follow the rule of normal-sized cabin bag.
