Status: Full-time, exempt
Schedule: M-F, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., 37.5 hours per week including occasional evening and weekend work and/or travel based on business needs/position requirements. Note: This is an exempt position and there may be a need to work outside of core hours based on the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.

Location: While SAF and IES Abroad are headquartered in Chicago, the Drupal Developer, will work out of their home office or work out of IES Abroad headquarters in Chicago, as required.
Summary of position:
The Drupal Developer, International Websites plays a pivotal role within the Global Marketing Team, focusing on the design, development, and ongoing maintenance of the Study Abroad Foundation's (SAF) public websites, including studyabroadfoundation.org and its regional counterparts. Reporting directly to the Product Owner, International Websites, this role is critical in executing the digital strategy and technical roadmap laid out by the Product Owner.
As a technical expert, the Drupal Developer, International Websites will engage in all stages of the software development lifecycle for Drupal-based systems. This includes architectural planning, detailed design, coding, testing, and integration with both third-party services and IES Abroad's proprietary systems. The role demands a robust understanding of cloud-hosted Drupal ecosystems and the ability to apply various methodologies to ensure their optimal performance and security.
The nature of the work requires the Drupal Developer to adeptly manage concurrent projects, demonstrating flexibility and the capacity to prioritize tasks effectively, sometimes on a daily basis. Collaboration is key; the Developer will work closely with other technical teams and the Product Owner to align development efforts with broader organizational goals.
Key to success in this role is a deep knowledge of Drupal, a strong background in web development and systems integration, and the ability to align technical solutions with the needs of both internal stakeholders and end users. The ideal candidate will be a proactive team player, eager to learn, and willing to share knowledge and mentor peers within the development team.
Development and Technical Execution:
- Contribute high-quality code to the Drupal website codebase, ensuring adherence to best practices and project requirements.
- Participate in a multi-developer workflow, assuming roles such as analyst, developer, or tester as needed.
- Provide detailed technical specifications and contribute to the creation and maintenance of documentation.
- Engage in peer review processes for design and code, both as a reviewer and a contributor.
Project Management and Support:
- Respond to critical site events outside of regular business hours as required.
- Review, understand, and help document detailed functional and technical requirements for SAF's public websites.
- Provide task estimates and suggest approaches before initiating work.
- Proactively identify opportunities for technological enhancements and innovations.
Quality Assurance and Governance:
- Ensure all code is peer-reviewed by other in-house Drupal Developers or our external development partner to maintain high standards.
- Identify requirement gaps from governance and IT perspectives, addressing potential issues proactively.
- Accurately document all completed work and participate in the development of documentation standards.
Portfolio and Drupal Engagement:
- A solid portfolio showcasing a range of Drupal and web development projects.
- Active participation in the Drupal community will be considered favorably.
Experience & Qualifications/Skills:
- 2-4+ years of hands-on experience with Drupal 7-9, with a strong understanding of its core principles and structure.
- 2-4+ years of experience in supporting and maintaining web applications.
- Proficiency in PHP, MySQL, JSON, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, JQuery
- Experience in working with RESTful web services.
- Experience with Docker
- Experience with multilingual websites
- A thorough understanding of web standards, cross-browser development, and responsive design.
- Familiarity with version control systems, particularly Git, and knowledge of build scripting and deployment workflows.
- Ability to demonstrate values and promotion of diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism required.
- Comfortable operating within Linux/Unix environments.
Education Licenses and/or Certifications etc.:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in computer-related major or equivalent experience
